Saying Goodbye

On Monday night I received a phone call from my Daddy letting me know that my aunt had passed away. She has been in hospice since this summer...so the news wasn't a shock to any of us, but sad nonetheless. I've been trying to come up with something to write but am having a horrible case of writer's block so, I'm just going to repost what Moogie wrote:

This has been another week of conflicting emotions.
My sister-in-law Pamela (she graduated to "Pamela" from "Pam" shortly after her marriage), having been born dead some 58 years ago and resuscitated, was saddled thenceforth with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and then grew into diabetes and Crohn's disease, among other unpleasant things.

A few months ago, in August, she had a discussion with God and her husband -- a genuine saint if ever there was one -- and then made the decision to forego any further blood transfusions or hospitalizations. They all peacefully began to make preparations for her transition from this life to the next, beginning with getting her set up with a home hospice service. She was positively giddy when she called to let us know that she had been accepted into the hospice program, and that she really liked the ladies who would be her caregivers. You would have thought she'd won a trip to Disney World.

My other sister-in-law and her daughter traveled to see Pamela in the early fall for the last time -- they had a nice visit.

My husband was not so much at peace with Pam's decision. He and his brother plotted ways to make her continue the fight to stay alive, because, well, that's just what you do -- you stay alive. Or you throw money at problems and they get all better.

They wanted her to continue the fight -- until they came face-to-face with the magnitude of the task of staying alive. Her husband, an R.N., emailed a complete synopsis of her various diagnoses and treatments, together with a list of the medications she had to take daily and their out-of-pocket cost.

The cost was pretty staggering, but the cost was not what helped them accept Pamela's decision. The fact that she would be faced with transfusions every single month and still hurt and be worn out; that she no longer had the strength to sew the blankets that she had lovingly stitched and donated to babies the world over; that she couldn't sit long enough to attend worship services; that she could no longer make her fingers work well enough to play the organ their beloved aunt had given her -- those things helped them find the peace in her decision.

But when the call came Monday evening from her weary husband, my strong, brave man still wept for the loss of his baby sister. We both shed hot, bitter tears for our loss.

For Pamela, we rejoiced.

I told Pepper that Pamela was probably playing the organ -- or even the oboe, if she chose -- or dancing with Aunt Del. He sniffed and said, "No one can really play the oboe. But, I can picture them dancing."

She never could really move the way she would have liked to here on Earth. Now, I'll bet she's in the Top 20 of "So You Think You Can Dance -- Heavenly Edition."

We lay her to rest in a few days, even though she's already found her way to eternity. And I seriously doubt whether she'll rest at all -- there's too much dancing to catch up on.

I can't think of a better way to write about this loss. Moogie states it all. Moogie and I will be heading to St. Louis EARLY Saturday morning to join our family in celebrating Pamela's life and her newfound dancing shoes. Rest in peace Aunt Pamela. Tim has offered to come with me, but I have asked him to stay home to take care of the pups for me.

So not to have a completely depressing post, yesterday I ordered my wedding cake!! YAY!!! We're getting it from Mickey's Special Affairs (um...where else, right?). The picture below is not what the cake will look like, but it is the closest picture I could find. My cake is a four tier and will not have flowers. But...you can get sort of an idea. I haven't decided what color I want my icing ribbon to be...and I'm going to top the cake with initials. Of course, I haven't even started to look for the cake topper yet. But hey. The cake is ordered, right?

On a final note, Mrs. G and I are going to see New Moon tomorrow night. We're SO excited. I hope it is better than the first Twilight movie!!

While the cats are away...

...the mice will play!

Our good friend, Amanda, was stuck with all the fellas on Halloween night (bless her heart!). But thankfully, she's a great gal--and had her camera ready.

Here are some photos of our boys on Halloween, while we were in NOLA.

BTW. Nick's costume is on BACKWARDS! ...sigh...I LOVE these guys. Always providing great laughs!!!

ESPN College Game Day --Week 11

Well, our Timmy boy is just beside himself this week. Resting up and getting ready to head out to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for the weekend. Why? Why oh Why?

Well, since you asked.

Week 11 ESPN College GameDay will be hosted at TCU!!! In addition to the Gameday announcement, TCU is ranked #4 in all polls--which is the first time a non-BCS conference team has achieved such a high ranking. Go Frogs!!

Tim and his parents have already snatched their tickets up...good thing they did because I just came across this headline: Utah game sold out, student admission still free.

I don't get to go. This wedding and school thing has taken up all my free time and I just can't leave LR right now (I've got to set my priorities, you know, and the trip to NOLA to see the Saints DEFINITELY tops my priority list!!). I'm really bummed that I'm going to miss out on all the adventures, but I'm really glad that Tim gets to go. These kind of days are what make it for him.

I'm reaching that "burned out" mode. Work is too much, school is pestering me and nevermind wedding plans!! But I'm not worried about it--this stage won't last forever and I truly, truly believe that this will ALL be very worth it in the end!!

I started painting our tv room (only 6 months after I bought the paint) and ya'll...it looks SO good! I can't wait for it to be completely finished! I will post some before and after pictures when all is said and done (and sorry--can't promise it won't be another 6 months until it is officially "done").

I got my professional bridal portraits back and I'm really excited about some of them! I can't wait until I can share with blog land. Only 165 more days to go! ;) AND, I ordered my invitations. They are perfect! Well, at least the proofs are--so surely that means they are. Perfect. You know? I'll probably post a JPG image of the invitation once I formally send them out--but I don't want to ruin any surprises I've managed to keep for all of the family/friends that regularly check Our Little World.

That's all I have for now. Sorry that I'm not posting much. Something has to get neglected sometimes with crazy schedules and crazy work!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

WHO DAT?!?!?!?

**Note: I posted THREE posts tonight, so for those of you that like to click on the post link instead of the blog link (this is directed to MOOGIE), make sure to check out all three posts!**

So...I'm still not going to get super pumped...there are still plenty of games left in this season. But, with that said, HOW MUCH FUN have these first seven games been? (Ok, could've done without the close ending against the Falcons on Monday night, but other than that)...

Tim and I are REALLY enjoying this football season. We love the Saints--but it is SO MUCH MORE FUN when they're winning!! :)

On another note...don't you feel sorry for my unborn children if I do this to my sweet baby pups? I thought they should join in the pre-game festivities on Monday night. They thought otherwise! Ty is growing a bit more into his jersey. Maybe next year it will fit!!

I mean...that look could almost pass as hatred. :)

He thought I had a treat. Poor baby. :(

Ty REALLY didn't like his jersey. I caught some of him trying to get the jersey off (don't worry animal lovers, I took it off right after I turned this video off...I won't torture my babies with jersies for long periods of time, LOL!!)

Ta Ta!

new orleans visit and halloween fun!

Jess, Marlo, Miss V and I headed down to New Orleans for Halloween weekend. We drove down late Thursday night so we had all day Friday and Saturday to get stuff done! On Friday night I got to go see Rachael, Will, Amanda, Scott and of course, the PRECIOUS baby Maxx. Don't you just want to squeeze his cheeks and give him great big kisses?!?!? I sure did!!

SO. Stinkin' cute.
After a whirlwind day of getting ready for my bridal shoot and then actually taking the shoot we went home and got ready for Halloween adventures. Once we had dinner and waited long enough for the no-show trick or treaters (Miss V and I walked down the street and handed candy out!), we headed to the Quarter. If you have never been to the Quarter on Halloween, I highly recommend it. At least once in your lifetime. I promise. The costumes alone are worth it!!
Marlo is a Tin Soldier.

Bouie is showing off his sombrero (he really disliked it!)

Jess the Pirate, Marlo the Tin Soldier, Miss V the Lady Bug and ME...the Gold Digger (that, my friends is a shovel in my hand...I'm gonna go dig me some gold and a cell phone in the other hand. I'm probably talkin' to Big Poppa)

As Moogie says...the family that trick or treats together...

Moogie and Daddy--The Latin American Studies Graduate (she found it lying around the house) and the Joker? creepy old man?
Not really sure...you take a stab at it...

NOW...for the interesting part.

These four "ladies" were dressed as flight attendants. Yes. They were about 7 feet tall.

This would be Cruella de Vil and the little dalmations she has snatched. No. Your eyes do not deceive you...there were a bunch more than what the camera caught. Little "dalmations" running all over Bourbon Street (of the two legged variety)!

This is a group of fellas from Dallas that dressed up as a baseball team. As I like to think of this as a family friendly blog...I'll let YOU try to figure out what their team name was.

No Words.

We matched!! Go Saints!!

Obama's Healthcare Plan. There were a lot of spoofs on the healthcare saga in costume world Halloween night.

I just thought this was a really neat costume. This guy went ALL out (but they usually do in Oz)

Falltime fun

Here are pictures of a couple of weekends back when we had people over to watch some football and eat some gumbo. We had so much fun!

Tim was pumped about his frogs!

Taylor is teaching Will how important it is for beebee gun safety. It IS important!!!

We had a lot of ping pong action going on in the garage...

Taylor was a ladies' man!!!

We got excited about the Frogs, too!

John was excited about the Frogs beating BYU!! Tim's excitement was contagious!

I made several attempts at getting an all boys pic (Taylor hadn't made it to the house yet, I DEFINITELY wasn't going to try and round them all up again by the time he got there!)

Attempt #1
Attempt #2

Final Attempt. Not too bad. They're all looking at the camera at least!!

Actually got this picture on Friday night. We had Girls' Night at Lauryn's. How cute is her old weenie man, Rusty? He LOVES his mama!! Oh snuggles.

Back to the grind

Well I had a WONDERFUL weekend in New Orleans. I got to see Amanda, Rachael, Will, Scott--and of course, Mr. Maxx on Friday night! What a precious little man!!

The rest of the weekend was somewhat of a blur--so much to do and not a lot of time to do it. I did my bridal shoots--and I feel like they were a huge success. Hopefully, they were a huge success...we shall see.

I WILL get pictures up--both from the last weekend and from Halloween. Telluride (aka Marlo) will get me if I don't post pictures and post them soon. Hopefully I can get to it tonight, but I'm NOT making any promises....because the Saints are playing, well, and that just trumps just about everything.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween. I've enjoyed visiting other blogs seeing pictures of all the precious little ones!!

This article came out of the Wall Street Journal. It made me laugh out loud several times (ignore the political implications--I just liked how they think the Saints are doing so great!!), thought I'd share:

By James Taranto
We have a few questions: Do the New Orleans Saints have an enemies list? Do the New Orleans Saints complain incessantly about the "mess" they "inherited"? Do the New Orleans Saints take every opportunity to blame Reggie Bush for their failure to make the Super Bowl in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons? The Obama administration is more like a team that was hyped to the stars all spring and summer but after a quarter-season has a 2-2 record. They've won a couple of close games against very weak opposition, and their losses came against mediocre teams. With 12 games to go, there's still plenty of time to salvage the season--but the schedule is about to get a lot tougher. The New Orleans Saints are undefeated because they have focused on one thing: playing great football. Unless President Obama and his men get serious and focused on governing, they'll end up like the St. Louis Rams--winless, and nearly owned by Rush Limbaugh.
